Trauma – The Ayurvedic Perspective

Ayurveda views the body as a whole, with every experience synergistically affecting our entire person.

Our mind, emotions, and body are intimately connected... pull the rope and the cart follows, pull the cart and the rope gets dragged along. What our mind and emotions experience, our body records; and what our body experiences, our mind and emotions will naturally try to make sense of intellectually or emotionally. Although quite different from physical injury, emotional trauma entails a healing process similar to physical injury. The Ayurvedic perspective is that our mind and emotions are supported by our bodies, and our bodies record all our experiences. So in the context of Ayurvedic healing, we address trauma by addressing our physical state of balance, laying the foundation for the body to rid itself of the trauma on all levels — mind, emotions, and body. Let’s look at the underlying principles:

As you move through your healing process, know that you don’t have to go alone. If you find that you are overwhelmed by any experience, please seek professional help. Find someone trusted to confide in. Humans are social by nature and speaking to a trusted counselor, loving family member, or friend that can listen unconditionally without judging can make a big difference.

At vpk by Maharishi Ayurveda, our role is to nurture the unique physiology of each individual with our non-addictive herbals which can, in turn, support physical, emotional and intellectual healing.
