Six Levels of Quality Testing
Identification -- After the herbs are harvested, they are inspected by experts in dravyaguna, the science of identification and use of healing plants. It takes great attention and expertise to correctly identify herbs. Sorting -- Each batch of herbs is then sorted for quality. It's not unusual for over half the crop to be rejected, because ayurvedic standards for maturity, purity and potency are stringent. Herbal Fingerprinting -- At the processing plant, advanced technology such as High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is used to verify the biological components in each herb packet. HPLC helps re-verify the identity of the herb as well as the quality. Heavy Metals Testing -- Every batch of herbs is also tested for heavy metal contaminants that can occur accidentally by air pollution from faraway cities. Biological Testing -- Natural farming or harvesting can involve biological risk. Our herbs are thoroughly tested after processing to screen out any possible biological contaminants. Independent Testing -- Upon arrival in the United States, each batch of finished products is tested by reputed independent laboratories to exceed all western standards for purity and freshness.

The history of total health

Our goal is to help every individual enjoy total health. The ideal of total health goes back much farther than 1985, when we incorporated in the U.S. as Maharishi Ayurveda Products International.

The original science of health is as old as the human race. It’s called ayurveda, which is Sanskrit for "science of life."

The written records of this complete system of natural health care are about 5,000 years old. From age to age, sages and physicians have rediscovered this timeless health wisdom.

In 1980, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of the Transcendental Meditation® program, began working with three of India’s top ayurvedic experts, Dr. V.M. Dwivedi, Dr. B.D. Triguna and Dr. Balaraj Maharishi. They revived the ancient knowledge and called it Maharishi Ayurveda. They formed a medical council that created our authentic herbal formulas according to the ayurvedic texts. Authentic formulation and preparation
Ayurvedic texts talk about sanyog—the science of combining different herbs into precise blends that offer the added value of synergy and balance. Our formulas aren’t single herbs or random combinations of ingredients from the latest health fads -- they are carefully formulated combinations based on the traditional texts. Each formula is developed under the close supervision of our council of ayurvedic physicians. Equally important in ayurveda is sanskar -- preparing the herbs in such a manner that the innate intelligence and healing wisdom of each plant is carefully preserved in the final product. Our formulas are prepared meticulously as laid down in the ayurvedic texts. For example, it takes six months to prepare some of our minerals. Herbs used in our formulas are harvested at their freshest in India. The ayurvedic science of harvesting standardizes herb potency at its natural maximum without the use of chemical additives. Herbs naturally vary in potency with seasons, cycles of the moon and even by the time of day. Following traditional harvesting and processing techniques ensures natural standardization of potency. Where possible without threatening the natural ecological balance, our herbs are gathered in the wild, because wild-crafted herbs can be as much as 100 times more potent than their cultivated counterparts.
