Stewed Apples (Cooked Apples with Cloves)

Why we love this recipe

Start the day with Ayurvedic stewed apples to build an appetite for lunch, stimulate regular bowel movements, increase vitality and alertness, and provide a light but satisfying start to the day. Stewed pears also make a delicious breakfast. For something heartier, follow the stewed fruit with some chapati bread, warm milk, or sweet cooked cereal.

How to make stewed apples

Ingredients

  • 1 whole fresh, sweet apple, cored and peeled
  • 5 whole cloves
  • ¼ cup of purified water

Directions*

  1. Dice the apple into small pieces. Add cloves, apple and water in a covered pot.
  2. Cook the apple in ¼ cup of water until it is soft.
  3. Discard the cloves, cool slightly, and enjoy.

*Stewed apples may also be easily cooked in a crock pot (slow cooker) overnight on "low", or in the morning over a one hour period on "high." Fill the crock pot with 2 inches of water to prevent burning.

Starting your day with a light breakfast will help set you up for success. Jumpstart your day with dinacharya—the complete Ayurvedic daily routine—to promote balance and total wellbeing in mind and body.
