Pancha-Amrita — The 5 Nectars

Why we love this recipe

Pancha amrita is a very special tonic. In Sanskrit, the words pancha amrita mean “5 nectars.”  In Ayurveda, pancha amrita is said to rapidly increase ojas (life essence) in the pulse while nourishing and strengthening all the tissues. This delicious drink is best consumed in the morning.

A note about mixing ghee & honey

Please note that mixing ghee and honey in equal portions is generally not recommended in Ayurveda (the same is true of milk and yogurt). But this very special recipe is a rare exception to the rule. If you tolerate dairy, you can enjoy this special amrita drink with confidence, knowing that it promotes bliss and well-being!

Yields one cup

Ingredients

  • Cup of organic whole milk, or 2% milk
  • 1 tsp. organic ghee
  • 1 tsp. organic honey
  • 1 tsp. fresh organic yogurt
  • 1 tsp. organic brown sugar
  • Optional: a pinch or two of cardamom and a teaspoon of Organic Rose Water.

Directions

  1. Slowly bring the milk to a boil for a moment and lower the heat. This makes the milk more digestible.
  2. Make sure you watch it so it doesn't boil over. Let the milk cool to lukewarm.
  3. Once the milk has cooled down a bit, mix in and blend the other ingredients.
