Aromatherapy Oils: The Scent of Perfection

Aromatherapy Oils: The Scent of Perfection

Healing scents have been used in the ayurvedic tradition for millennia — from sandalwood incense lit during meditation to holy basil infused water sprinkled indoors for purification.

Maharishi Ayurveda's aromatherapy offerings have now expanded to include our premium line of essential oils. These are ayurvedic essential oils — used for ages to support a profound state of balance in mind and body. They are prepared painstakingly: grown and produced traditionally using a traditional time-consuming, but superior distillation process crucial to the quality of the oils and the effect on the physiology and psychology.

Aromatherapy is one of the most popular complementary therapies. The effectiveness of essential oils employed for therapy depends on the purity of the oils. When essential oils are completely pure — produced without the use of chemicals and not combined with any synthetic products — the available energy, aroma and health benefits are greatly enhanced.

Highest quality is assured when oils are produced according to stringent standards. These kinds of pure oils have been difficult to obtain for a number of reasons, even though the demand for quality essential oils is growing.

Producing 100% pure essential oils requires more time and focus and involves greater risks, so this is practiced by only a few small family enterprises.

The distillation process is also crucial to the quality of the oils. Most modern methods leave the magic and majesty out of oils. For example, if an essential oil is distilled too quickly using high pressure and high temperature, many of the rare precious elements are lost. In this process, slow distillation at lower temperatures ensures the maximum retention of active components in the oils, which contributes to their special aromatic and therapeutic effect.

Maharish Ayurveda offers an outstanding selection of 100% pure essential oils and room sprays, exceptional in their purity and high quality. They are derived from plants that are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides and they are distilled slowly and under low pressure to ensure maximum retention of active components.

Some of our essential oils are certified wild crafted, derived from wild-grown plants, harvested and distilled from wild-grown plants, which may be produced in larger quantities (e.g., Eucalyptus, Tea-tree, Siberian pine, etc.) but have not undergone any chemical treatment.

Some plants are not suited to the distillation process, because they lose aroma, properties, or yield. In these cases, the plant material may be obtained by solvent extraction. The final product from this process is known as an Absolute.

This body of knowledge represents both the craftsmanship of ancient Vedic wisdom applied to the powerful innate intelligence, and the splendor of plant aromas.
